Week 3 of Coronavirus - WHAT CAN WE DO TO BE HEALTHIER AND FITTER BY RACE SEASON?

Motivation, April 10, 2020

First of all I hope everyone is well and staying safe during this tough time! I know this change has been difficult for many because having a new routine is always challenging. We have seen a lot of negatives from this crisis but to stay sane and lower our stress levels, we have to focus on all the positives we can get out of this.

Dear Athletes,

First of all I hope everyone is well and staying safe during this tough time! I know this change has been difficult for many because having a new routine is always challenging.

We have seen a lot of negatives from this crisis but to stay sane and lower our stress levels, we have to focus on all the positives we can get out of this.

In terms of training, I am actually predicting that we will see A LOT of athletes getting stronger (with all the focused indoor training), being fresh physically and mentally (not rushing through the season and over doing in volume and intensity) and most importantly with a "renewed motivation"!

I believe we will all be looking forward to race again and we will appreciate racing a bit more. I have seen some announcements (like Ironman Canada) confirming races for August so I believe we will have a better idea of the situation in a few weeks.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO BE HEALTHIER AND FITTER BY RACE SEASON?

I think this is a great time to work on all the things we have neglected throughout the years like:

* Mobility and Stability

How many of you have really spent the time improving your mobility to be able to swim, bike and run faster?

In swimming and running, mobility is CRUCIAL to get faster! You can reach further in the water and increase your catch, you can reduce drag from your legs with better hip flexor mobility, and from your feet with more ankle mobility.

In running if you want to increase your stride length, you need to have a more mobile hip and calves/soleus muscles!! All that we have not had time to do it properly before due to our busy life!

Stability of your core is also a very important part. Basically, if you are a "noodle" when moving, you will be wasting a lot of force! So the goal is to be a "stick" :) Do core everyday if you have extra time!!!

* Overall Strength

That is another area we constantly overlook in our training, most due to lack of time and opportunity. Now we can work on our body to be a better "overall" athlete! So when we get older, we can still move well and have stamina to do what we love without getting injured or weak.

The body workout I have designed for you guys will do just that! Promote a different body stimulus, making you move better, more efficient and stronger.

* Block Focus Training

Because getting in a pool is not an option for a while, you can then focus on your cycling and running. you will be able to add one or two more bike and/or run sessions a week to tackle your sport specific weakness or just to get even stronger on your strengths!

Indoor training will make you a better triathlete, you can focus more and be very specific on areas to target, bike trainer and treadmill can really boost your performance physically and specially mentally! You will be looking forward to go outside and kill it when we are allowed to!

Let's all use this time to be better, in all areas of life but specially at the sport we all love!

Have a great week!
