BIGGEST MISTAKE Triathletes do : Having Off Season break too long!

Rest and Recovery, November 25, 2016

Most of the beginner triathletes tend to take a long break during off season and this is the worst thing they can do for their athlete development.

Everyone wants to improve, get PR's , win AG or even qualify for World's but most do not understand that the most important thing is a consistent work, day in day out.

Taking along break after race season will cause detraining, losing not only the physiological benefits but also the skills learned during the season. It's like two steps forward, one step back thing so when you get back you have to basically start all over again losing all you have gained during the season !!!

Still, rest is very important to give your body and, just as importantly, your mind a much needed break from a long competitive season. You can use the Off season to work on skills, strength while keeping minimum aerobic work so you can go back to focused training quicker.

2 weeks is the most I recommend but after you need to have one session a day of 45 to 60 min. where best is to focus on the Foundation area of your fitness : Strength. Mobility, Speed and a bit of endurance.

Enjoy the Holidays !
